How to remove Coffee Stains from Cotton Clothes

Crying over spilt milk has become cliché now, so what’s next? Crying over spilt coffee?? If you happened to be thinking along these lines when you spilled coffee all over your shirt front while being engrossed in newspaper this morning, then you need to reconsider your thoughts. This is because, with our effective stain removal remedies, crying over coffee stains is inevitably out of question.

However, this doesn’t imply that getting rid of coffee stains from your cotton clothes is a piece of cake. Coffee is a natural dye itself, but when we speak of coffee stains, be ready to entertain sugar stains, cream stains, tannin stains and protein stains as a bonus as well. Thus, as soon as you incur any stain which smells of coffee even remotely, then embark upon the following stain removal techniques as soon as possible. The sooner you act, the more gratifying will the results be. So follow the directions given below and make friends with coffee stains.

Things that you will require:

·      Water
·      White vinegar
·      Absorbent paper towels/cloths
·      Tooth brush or a small scrub brush
·      Hydrogen per oxide/color safe bleach
·      Liquid laundry detergent

Steps that you need to take:

1.  The first step involves blotting the stain with absorbent paper towels (in case the stain happens to be fresh.) Continue blotting firmly until you are sure that you have got rid of maximum stain. Moreover, make sure that you blot the stain instead of rubbing it; as the latter method would spread the stain further instead of removing it.

2.  Now you need to take hold of the coffee stained cloth and place it under cold running water. You ought to place the back side of the stain under water instead of its front side because it is quite probable that flushing away coffee from the front side of the stain would eventually result in its spreading.

3.  Next, you need to make a cleaning paste by combining liquid laundry detergent, cold water and white vinegar. Keep the consistency of this paste a little thick.

4.  Apply a liberal amount of this paste on both sides of the coffee stain, so that it is adequately covered and let it sit on the stain for almost 5 minutes.

5.  Afterwards, work this cleaning paste onto the stain by rubbing it with a small tooth brush or scrub brush. Make sure that you rub in a circular motion to avoid spreading the stain.

6.  Follow this step by giving the coffee stain a rinse from its front side as well as back.

7.  Finally, launder the fabric like you normally do. If the stain persists then you can also consider using hydrogen per oxide on white clothes or color safe bleach on dark clothes.

8.  Hopefully, by this time these annoying coffee stains would no longer be seen on your cotton clothes.

Tips and Warnings:

1.  Use white paper towels to blot the stain. It is quite probable that color from colored towels/cloths might transfer to the stain, making you end up with two stains to worry about.

2.  Blotting the coffee stain with club soda can also prove to be fruitful.
