Dying your hair at home can
be fun and can save you from spending a lot of money. However, you cannot
completely negate the probability of hair dye accidents when it gets splattered
on your walls, counter tops and particularly your wood work or cabinetry. Now
as far as walls or counter tops are concerned, you can just try wiping it off
them.
Yet, hair dye spilled on
wood can be a tad tricky and pose some serious problems. A major one is that it
might discolor your wood ultimately ruining it.
So what’s next? Should you
stop trying to dye hair at home and instead pay hundreds of dollars at some
fancy saloon? Fortunately you can be saved from this troublesome and expensive
option. Given below are some effective household tips which can help you in the
effective removal of these dye stains from wood.
Follow the directions given
below and have a wonderful hair dye experience.
Things that you will require:
·
Half
table spoon baking soda
·
Half
table spoon vinegar
·
Water
·
Clean
cloths/ sponge
·
Spoon
·
Bowl
·
Absorbent
paper towels
Steps that you need to take:
1.
First
of all, you need to make a strong cleaning solution which removes these dye
stains from wood. To make this solution, you will have to combine the stain
lifting powers of baking soda and vinegar. Take half table spoon of baking soda
and mix it with half table spoon of vinegar.
2.
Combine
both these ingredients in a small bowl and mix them together using a spoon.
Take care that you do not excessively dilute them. Their consistency ought to
be thick enough so that it doesn’t drip off the spoon.
3.
Apply this mixture onto the hair dye stain and
make sure that the stain is carefully and appropriately covered with it.
4.
Allow
it to sit on the stain for some time, approximately five minutes so that the
cleaning agents can carry out their action effectively.
5.
Now
using a clean cloth wipe this mixture off the wooden surface.
6.
To
ensure that all hair dye stain remnants and traces of cleaning agents have been
satisfactorily cleaned form wood, take an absorbent paper towel and soak it in
clean water. Then squeeze the towel to remove excess water and using this damp
towel, clean the previously stained area carefully.
7.
Hopefully,
you will end up with a clean and stain free wooden surface.
Tips:
1.
If
the hair dye stain which you are dealing with happens to be stubborn or large,
then you can double the quantity of both the ingredients mentioned above.
2.
You
can also consider mixing one part vinegar with one part water. Pour this
vinegar solution into a spray bottle and then mist it onto the stained area.
Afterwards, work onto the stain using a sponge until it disappears or starts
fading.
3.
Another
handy tip is to file the stained area if it has been potentially discolored and
then restore it to its original state by waxing and buffing.
