How to Remove Coke/Pepsi Stains from Wood

Have you gone through that day when you were treating some guests to drinks and suddenly one of their kids dropped his glass of coke onto your wooden floor? And the worst part was that you couldn’t even give the kid a good shake; instead you had to smile politely and worry about the dreadful coke stains.

If you have experienced this situation or something like this then you must be familiar with these annoying Coke/Pepsi stains and their tendency to discolor wood if not treated properly. Yet appropriate and swift action can prevent any unpleasant consequences.

Make sure that you treat the Coke stain as early as possible, because the more time it will have to sit on the stain, the more difficult will its removal be. Follow the directions given below and watch as these coke stains disappear magically into thin air.

Things that you will require:

· Dish soap
· ½ cup ammonia
· ½ cup vinegar
· Wash cloth/mop
· towels
· Bucket
·  Warm Water

Steps that you need to take:

1.   First of all, you need to make a cleaning solution which is effective, but doesn’t harm your hardwood flooring. To make such a solution, take some warm water in a bucket and add some drops of dish soap in it. A diluted cleaning solution will now be at your disposal.

2.   Take hold of a wash cloth and dip it into this solution. Squeeze out excess moisture from the wash cloth and use it to wipe the stained area.

3.   If required, then repeat this step again.

4.   Now, throw away this soapy water and replace it with fresh, clean water.

5.   Dip a clean wash cloth in this water and use it to wipe the stained area along with the soapy water remnants.

6.   Now, to ensure a satisfactory removal of the sticky coke stain, pour ½ cup ammonia into this water-filled bucket and use this ammonia solution to mop the floor.

7.   Afterwards, discard this ammonia solution and fill the bucket again with clean water.

8.   This time, add ½ cup of vinegar into this water and use this vinegar solution to mop the floor again.

9.      Hopefully, by now all Coke/Pepsi stain remnants will have got out of the wooden flooring effectively.

10.   Finally, absorb any moisture left on the floor with the help of towels and allow it to air dry.

Tip:

Although 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed in warm water can be used in intense cases, yet it should then be followed by the sanding of floor. This is because it has a bleaching effect and can probably discolor your dark colored wood to some extent.
