Have you ever gone through
the trauma of having your kid or pet go sick all over your brand new carpet?
Now obviously you are worried about them too but lingering behind in the back
of your mind, while you tend to the sick child or pet, is the constant worry of
getting rid of these vomit stains from your carpet.
Cleaning vomit stains is
one of the worst chores. You obviously know why, yet let us further elaborate
it for you. Number one, the stains are disgusting. Number two, you have to get
rid of these stains before they ruin your carpet for good. Number three, the vomit
stains are accompanied with a horrible stench and you have to take care of it
as well.
If the above mentioned
points have discouraged your cleaning spirit, then it is time you raise your
spirits again because hereby we provide you with some effective remedies which
will enable you to bid farewell to these stains. However, you need to treat
these stains as swiftly as possible, so that they do not have time to set in
further.
The first mutual step in
all of these home remedies will be to primarily scrape off as much vomit as
possible. A dull knife or spoon can be used for this purpose
Method One (Using baking soda and enzyme
based cleaner)
The
following method deploys baking soda or corn starch. Either of these
ingredients works as a powerful absorbent and can help you to get rid of both
the stench and the stain.
Things that you will require:
·
Warm
water
·
Bucket
·
Dust
pan
·
Spoon
·
Paper
towel/old rags
·
Baking
soda/ corn starch
·
Vacuum
·
Enzyme
based cleaner
·
Water
·
Vinegar
·
Dish
soap
Steps that you need to take:
1.
After
scraping away maximum vomit from the stain, use rags or paper towels to blot
the stain so that maximum moisture is absorbed.
2.
To
remove the remaining moisture, take some baking soda or corn starch and
sprinkle it on the stain. Sprinkle it in such a manner that the stain is
entirely covered. Any of these ingredients will absorb all the excess moisture .Leave
it to set in for ten to fifteen minutes.
3.
Vacuum
away this baking soda or corn starch residue. After getting done with the
stain, now you have to treat the annoying vomit odor.
4.
For
the removal of this vomit odor, you will have to get an enzyme based cleaner.
These cleaners break down all odor-causing proteins. Moreover, they are also
helpful in the removal of stains.
5.
Pour
a liberal amount of this cleaner on the vomit stain area.
6.
After
its application, use a clean cloth to blot the stain, making sure that all
traces of vomit as well as the cleaner are removed.
7.
The
steps 6 to 8 can be repeated if required, depending upon the persistence of
stain. In case, you are unable to lay your hands on any enzyme-based cleaner;
then you can make an alternative cleaning solution which performs the same
functions.
8.
To
make this cleaning solution, you will require water, vinegar and dish soap. Mix
these three ingredients and then apply this cleaning solution onto the stain.
9.
For
its application, blotting and removal; follow the method stated above.
10.
Once
you are sure that the vomit stains and its odor has been satisfactorily
removed, let the carpet air dry completely.
11.
Afterwards,
vacuum the carpet as a last toast to restore it to its original texture.
Tip:
Always
blot the carpet instead of scrubbing it. This is because the latter method can
most likely damage your carpet, causing the carpet fibers to fray.
Method two (Using Club Soda and Oxy clean
spray)
Had
you ever thought that your typical club soda with which you keep your freezers
stocked, can actually help in stain removal? If you hadn’t thought of this
before, then it is time you think of it now; because the following method
deploys club soda to get rid of vomit
stains. Follow this method, and enjoy a clean and stain free carpet.
Things that you will require:
·
Club
soda
·
Clean
rags
·
Oxy
clean spray
Steps that you need to take:
1.
After
cleaning away all the excess solid matter, take some club soda and pour a
liberal amount on the stain.
2.
Let
the soda sit on the stain for some time so that it can effectively react with
the vomit stain remnants making them go away easily.
3.
After
allowing it to sit in for some time, take a clean rag and use it to blot the
stain so that all the traces of stain and soda are removed.
4.
However,
if some stain remnants are still there, then repeat the steps given above.
5.
Once
you are sure that the stain has gone entirely, take some Oxyclean spray and
spray it on the stain.
6.
This
spray will make sure that the stain and its accompanying smell are
satisfactorily gone.
7.
After
spraying it on the stain blot the stain again with a clean rag and then let it
air dry.
8.
Hopefully
the vomit stain and smell both will have gone away, restoring your carpet to
its prior state.
Tips:
Hydrogen per oxide and
carpet shampoo is also worth giving a shot when it comes to the removal of
vomit stains from carpets.
