Who does not love mustard? What is a
hot dog or a sandwich without mustard? Try eating a hot dog without it, and you
will probably not even like it as much! Although mustard, similar to ketchup
and mayonnaise, complements many foods, it can ruin your perfectly good day
when you find it on your clothes, carpet or the upholstery. Mustard contains
turmeric that is generally used to dye fabric. Hence, when mustard drops on
your clothes, carpet or upholstery, it is likely to leave a dark yellow stain
behind, unless treated quickly and in the proper way.
Before
you remove the mustard stains, it is essential that you take care of the
following things:
·
First
and foremost, read the label of all the ingredients that you are going to use.
If anything contains ammonia, do not use it! Ammonia combined with turmeric
makes the stain permanent.
·
Secondly,
read the label of the item which contains the mustard stain. Check for any
instructions regarding any specific ingredient that should be avoided while
cleaning it. You may also want to see if it is washable or not.
·
Also,
try the cleaning solution on a small, hidden part of the fabric. Apply it for 2
minutes, and when you remove it, see if the cloth has discolored or been
damaged in any way. If that is the case, do not use the same cleaning solution
on the stain.
·
Gently
blot away any excess mustard present on the fabric, ensuring that the stain
does not spread. When you have done this, rinse the back of the stain well with
cold water.
·
If
the stain is old and you know the type of mustard that dropped on the fabric,
you can start by first refreshing the stain. To do so, apply the exact same
mustard on the stain, leave it in place for 5 minutes, and then start getting
the old stain out from the fabric the way you would if it was a fresh stain.

the shirt in the bucket from 30 to 40 minutes, depending on how large and deep
the stain is.

empty spray bottle; fill it with 2 cups of warm water, and 1 teaspoon of mild
detergent. Shake the bottle well.
4.
Spray
the solution on the stained area.
5.
Leave
it in place for 5 minutes.

After
5 minutes, soak the stained area in cold water, and start blotting the carpet
