Stains of any kind are extremely
visible on rayon, even if it is in darker colors. Usually on other materials,
stains on dark colors do not show but that is not the case when it comes to
rayon, therefore if you are cooking or handling any kind of greasy surfaces,
the material is bound to get stained.
It is very important to immediately
treat grease stains on rayon; otherwise, they become very time consuming and
hard to clean. Grease stains on rayon not only look ugly but after a while may
even start to feel sticky and give off a bad smell.
Rayon is often used to make shirts,
and if you are wearing any item made out of rayon, it is important to be
careful when handling greasy surfaces. Here are some methods which have proved
successful in removing the grease stains from rayon.
Method 1 (Home-made Cleaning Solution)
Things that you will require:
·
Baking
soda
·
Dishwashing
liquid (known for its grease removing quality)
·
Cleaning
towels
·
Butter
knife
·
WD-40
·
Paper
towels
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
If
the stain is fresh, it is best to clean the surface of the stain on the rayon
to get rid of all the access grease. Do this by using a paper towel. If the
stain is old but still has dried up grease on the surface, scrape it off with a
butter knife before proceeding.
2. For fresh stain, sprinkle
baking soda on the surface of the stain and let it absorb the powder, but in
case of an old stain you will need a stronger base to apply the powder. To make
a base, soak the rayon stain in the WD-40 liquid first and then sprinkle baking
soda on it.
3. If in a hurry, let the grease
stain remain in the baking soda for about an hour, but if you are not short of
time, it is best to leave it for a whole night.
4. Scrape off the dried baking
powder to see if the stain has left the rayon item. Usually the stain vanishes
by this point, but if you still see a dim sign of it, pour the grease cutting
dishwasher on the stain and let it stay for about thirty minutes.
5.
Dip
a cleaning towel in water and start removing the dishwashing liquid. At this
point the stain will be completely removed.
Method 1 (Using Hair Spray &
Dishwashing Liquid)
Things that you will require:
·
Hair
spray
·
Paper
towel
·
Mild
washing detergent
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
Spray
some of the hair spray onto a corner of the rayon shirt or a place it won’t be
visible to check if the hair spray leaves color or discolors rayon. Once the
spray has dried and you have made sure it doesn’t leave a mark, proceed to the
next step. If it leaves color, get a hair spray which doesn’t have color in it.
2. Spread the rayon item on
flat surface and put a paper towel under the stain.
3. Once everything is in
place, spray the stain with the hair spray until the grease stain is completely
drenched.
4. Wait for a while so that
the paper towel absorbs the stain.
5.
Use
the mild detergent to wash the rayon item (shirt/trouser) with warm water.
After doing all the things your rayon stuff will be free of any grease stains.
Warning:
·
It
is important to understand that whenever a rayon based item is washed with the
intent to remove a stain, it is necessary that the item is not dried in a
machine. While spinning the heat that is produced only makes the stain set in
deeper rather than removing it. It is best to dry the item naturally or under a
fan.

Ummm...WD-40? No way! I might as well just bring the item to the dry cleaners! Not going to try ANY of these methods.

I've heard of WD_40 being used as a stain remover. I think they have their own stain remover under with that product name. One doesn't really know, until one tries it.
Thanks for the help in removing the grease stain from my most favorite shirt!! After reading all the suggestions, I ended up applying Dawn dish detergent, letting it set for 2hrs., then washed it with Warm water.
What can I use id I don't have any WD 40
What WD40 does is basically rewetting and loosening up the old grease that has set in. Once it is wet again it will react more with whatever grease cutter you are using to remove the grease.stain. it works similar to when you apply wet nail polish to old set-up polish...the new polish loosens the old dry polish. I've used WD40 on new khaki pants that got caught in a bike chain and it worked like a charm!
