How to remove Grease Stains from Silk Dress



You have ironed your favorite Silk Dress for a Birthday Party of your friend, suddenly you find Grease Stains on them. One or two grease marks do end up getting on the perfect dress you wear, especially if the dress is made of silk. Silk is the kind of material which has a shiny quality to it. With an ugly grease mark on it, the shine remains but the stain is even more prominent than the dress. It is important that the grease stain on a silk dress is washed off immediately so that the rest of the evening isn’t ruined. In the methods below we have tried to give remedies which can be performed immediately after a grease stain has appeared on your dress. The ingredients for each method can be easily found or are available nearby, and after spending five minutes of your time or less, you can get rid of the grease stains on your silk dress and get back to getting compliments on your beautiful dress.


Method 1 (Using Citrus Oil)

Things that you will require:

·      Citrus oil (or a product containing citrus oil)
·      2 Cotton balls
·      Paper towel
·      Hot steam iron

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Flatten the surface of the silk dress on an iron stand.

2.   Dip the cotton ball in the citrus oil and dab it gently on the stain.

3.   Quickly cover the surface with the paper towel so that it absorbs the access oil.

4.   With the paper towel still on the surface iron it with the hot steam iron, making sure that the iron doesn’t touch any other part of the silk dress because it might burn it.

5.   The paper towel will protect the surface and also absorb the remaining citrus oil along with the Grease when ironed.

6.   Now you can wear your silk dress again.


Method 2 (Using Corn Starch)

Things that you will require:

·      A small bowl of corn starch
·      Dish washing liquid
·      A bowl of water

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Scrape off the access grease on the surface of the silk dress by hand or by using any dull knife or spoon.

2.   Scatter the corn starch on the Grease stain and tap it with the finger so that it sticks to the stain.

3.   Leave the corn starch on the grease stain for at least a day, after which brush it off to see if the stain is still there. Fresh stains will go away after this step, but if you see some of the stains left behind follow the next steps.

4.   Pour a drop or two of the dish washing liquid onto the stain and dilute it with equal amount of water.

5.   Leave the dish washing liquid in for 2-3 hours, after which rub the stain by hand and rinse thoroughly with plain tap water. Hopefully, The Grease stain on your silk dress will be removed completely.

Method 3 (Using Dish Washing Liquid Solution)

Things that you will require:

·      A mild dish washing liquid
·      A bowl of plain water
·      A butter knife

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Scrape the surface of the stain with the butter knife to remove all access grease on the silk dress.

2.   Take two drops of the dish washing liquid on the palm of your hand and mix a few drops of water in it.

3.   Dab the surface of the stain with your finger so that the solution is only applied to the surface of the stain.

4.   Leave the solution on for 2-3 hours and rinse it with plain tap water. Finally your silk dress will be free of Grease Stains.
