Has the water pressure in your shower
reduced? Or has a dull, white film appeared in your porcelain toilet? Do not
blame the quality of the shower, sink or the toilet bowl. It is most likely
that this is due to hard water deposits. Hard water is water containing high
mineral content, such as calcium and magnesium, and leaves deposits called lime
scales. Hard water can cause clogging in pipes, brown or white stains in your
bathroom, and causes cleaning products to be less effective. To get rid of hard
water stains in your toilet, you do not necessarily have to use harsh chemical
agents. This article provides you with simple remedies using ingredients that
are easily available in your home. Remember to always wear gloves while
cleaning any type of stain.
Cleaning the Toilet Bowl (Method One)
Things that you will require:
·
Vinegar
·
Baking
Soda
·
Container
or Bowl
·
Toilet
brush
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
Before
you start cleaning the toilet bowl, you need to get rid of the water in it. To
do so, shut off the supply of water from behind. This would mean turning the
valve that is usually located behind the toilet. Flush the toilet. The bowl
should be empty.
2.
The
second step involves making the cleaning solution, i.e., a paste of vinegar and
baking soda, to get rid of the hard water stains. Take a container, and pour 1
to 2 cups of baking soda in it. Pour
enough vinegar to make a paste. Mix thoroughly.
3.
Now,
apply the paste on to the hard water stains with your gloved hands.
4.
Leave
the paste in place for 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow it to loosen the hard
water stains.
5.
Grab
a toilet brush, and scrub the hard water stains till they are removed.
6.
Open
the water supply from behind, and flush the toilet twice.
7.
If
the stain is still visible, repeat the above steps.
Cleaning the Toilet Bowl (Method Two)
Using
a pumice stone only will help you get rid of hard water stains that are not too
stubborn. It, however, requires more effort, and is for porcelain toilets only.
Things that you will require:
·
Pumice
Stone
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
To
get rid of the excess water in your toilet bowl, shut off the water supply from
behind the toilet, and flush the toilet so that the bowl is empty.
2.
Next,
wet the pumice stone.
3.
Start
scrubbing the hard water stains till they remove. Some might take longer than
the others.
4.
Once
done, open the shutoff valve from behind, and flush the toilet.
Cleaning the Sink and Shower Doors (Method
One)
Things that you will require:
·
Spray
bottle
·
Water
·
White
vinegar
·
Soft
cloths or sponge
·
Towel
Steps that you will need to take:
·
To
make the cleaning solution for hard water stains on your sink and shower doors,
fill a spray bottle half way with water. Fill the rest of it with pure white
vinegar.
·
Shake
the bottle well so that water and white vinegar mix completely.
·
Spray
the solution on to the hard water stains on your sink and shower doors.
·
Grab
a clean, soft cloth or sponge and scrub the sink and shower doors, moving from
one patch to another.
·
If
you fail to remove hard water stains with the above solution, you can also make
a paste of white vinegar and baking soda, and spread it over the stains. Leave
the solution on the surface for 15 minutes, and then scrub.
·
Rinse
the area with plain water.
·
Dry
completely with a towel.
Cleaning the Sink and Shower Doors (Method
Two)
Likewise
to white vinegar, the acidity in lemons can also help you get rid of hard water
stains.
Things that you will require:
·
Lemons
·

bottle
·
Soft,
clean cloths or sponge
·
Towel
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
Grab
a few lemons, and squeeze them in a container.

the lemon juice in a spray bottle.
3.
Spray
the lemon juice on the surface where you see hard water stains.
4.
Scrub
the surface using a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
5.
Now,
rinse the sink and shower doors with plain water.
6.
Make
sure you dry completely with a towel when done.
Cleaning the Shower Doors (Method Three)
Things that you will require:
·
Laundry
stain remover
·
Soft,
clean cloth or sponge
·
Fabric
softener sheet
·
Water
·
Towel
Steps that you will need to take:
1.
Grab
your bottle of laundry stain remover, and spray it on to the glass door.
2.
Scrub
the surface with a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
3.
Dip
a fabric softener sheet in plain water, and wring it.
4.
Scrub
the stains using the damp fabric softener sheet.
5.
Once
the stains disappear, rinse the shower doors with plain water.
6.
Dry
them completely with a towel to avoid further hard water deposits.
Cleaning the Showerhead (Method One)

·
Bucket
·
Warm
