Hard water
stains often settle in bath tubs as the tubs become old and as water set in
long in tubs the stain sets in. It is very important to remove them as it may
make your tub look messy and old which you really do not want. There are many
methods of removing such stains depending on different types of tubs. However,
the key to removing stain is to treat it as soon as you see even a drop hard
water stain on your tub. You can adopt anyone of the following methods
depending upon the type of Bathtub to remove Hard Water Stains.
Method
1 (For Acrylic Bathtubs)
As Acrylic Tubs have
a non-porous surface. No porous surface prevents the dirt to penetrate deep.
However if care is not taken and the tub is not washed regularly stains can
become immense. Abrasive cleaners should not be used to remove hard water
stains from acrylic surface as it can damage it.Moreover in case of Acrylic
Surface do not use abrasive material like Pumice Stone or Scouring Pad which
can be used in case of Enamel Surface. You can adopt the following method.
Things you will be required:
·
One cup of ammonia.
·
Half cup of
vinegar.
·
One forth cup of
baking soda.
·
One gallon of warm
water.
·
Elbow grease.
·
One piece of cloth.
Steps:
1. First
you have to make a solution that you can apply on the bath tub. To make a
solution you need one cup of ammonia, half cup of vinegar, one fourth of baking
soda. Mix all of them with one gallon of warm water. Stir the mixture well.
2. Then
dip a piece of cloth in the mixture and apply it on the tub and then for
rubbing use elbow grease on the stain.
3. Finally,
the hard water stains will be removed from your Acrylic Bathtub.
Method
2 (For Porcelain Bathtubs)
This material is hard
(stone like) and one of the most durable materials. So we can use tough
materials to clean it like Pumice Stone and Scouring Pad. Rub it either with Pumice stone or Scouring
Pad. Alternatively an abrasive paste can
be used. Procedure to apply Abrasive Paste is as follows.
Things you will be required:
·
Bring it on water
spot removal.
·
Paper towels.
Steps:
1. For
porcelain tubs you have to purchase a very famous product known as Bring it on water spot removal. It is a
paste that you can apply on the tub area for at least twenty to thirty minutes
maximum.
2. Then
take off the paste with the help of paper towels and then give a regular wash
to the tub.
3. There
will be no further hard water stains in your Porcelain Bathtub.
Method
3 (For Enamel Bathtubs)
Porcelain Material is
sensitive to bleach so does not apply it in any case. You can you use the
following method.
Things you will be required:
·
One teaspoon of
liquid dish washing soap.
·
One quarter of hot
water.
·
Sponge.
·
One large bowl.
·
One cup of baking
soda.
·
Cream of tartar.
·
Some hydrogen
peroxide.
Steps:
1. First,
pour one teaspoon of liquid dish washing soap into one quarter of water. Stir
in such a way that you are able to generate suds.
2. Then
sponge that soapy water on the surface of the tub covering the entire stain
area making sure you move the sponge in circular motions. Then rinse the tub
with warm water making sure you wash the soap away.
3. Then
place one cup of baking soda in one large bowl and add warm water to make a
thick and creamy paste. With the help of the sponge apply that paste over the
stain area allowing it to set in for ten to fifteen minutes and then wash it
away.
4. The
remaining stain should be treated with cream tartar and three percent of
hydrogen peroxide. You have to add both in a bowl and make a paste that you can
apply on the stain area. The paste should be scrubbed and then eventually
rinsed, once there is no more Hard Water stains on your Enamel Bathtub.
Method
4 (For Wooden Bathtubs)
Things you will be required:
·
Hard water stain
remover.
·
Vinegar.
·
Sponge.
Steps:
1. First
give a normal wash to your bathtub, so that you can get rid of any dust
particles and other stains that can be removed with a normal wash.
2. Then
add some vinegar on the stain and allow it to set in for at least thirty
minutes, in the mean while you may do other household chores.
3. After
thirty minutes you may wash the vinegar away and apply or spray some hard water
stain remover for ten minutes and then scrub it with a sponge.
4. Give
a normal wash to your Bathtub and you will be free of any stains.
Tips and Warnings:
1. In
method one abrasive cleaner should not be used as it can cause scratches which
may further destroy the stains.
2. Use
gloves when making paste, scrubbing or when applying the solution on the stain
area.
3. Use
stain removers of well-known brand that have been tried and tested by many
people so that you stain can be removed permanently and effectively.
