How To Remove Oil Stains From Leather Bags

Oil stains on leather bags occur when working women or people traveling carry ointments, hair oil or any other form of oil in their bags which may spill over when traveling or when keeping the bag upside down.

These oil spills are often accidents no matter how careful a person might be. Obviously you cannot throw away your expensive leather bags or simply give it away. As there are ways in which you can get rid of such stains.

The ways you can get rid of these stains are often inexpensive, involve materials that are widely available and easily accessible and do not take much time and effort. You can adopt any one of the following methods for the removal of Oil Stains from Leather Bags.

Method 1 (Using Talcum Powder)

Things you will be required:

·      Either a talcum powder or baby powder or a corn starch may even work.

·      Tissue papers or small towels.

Steps:

1.   Cover the stain area with talcum powder. If you do not have a talcum powder then in that case you may even use a baby powder or if you are at home you may use corn starch. After covering the area with talcum powder, you may leave it applied on for thirty whole minutes.

2.   After thirty minutes with the help of tissues push away the talcum powder and your leather bag will eventually be oil free.

Method 2 (Using Alcohol and Liquid Detergent)

Things you will be required:

·      Piece of dry cloth.

·      Small cotton balls.

·      Alcohol.

·      Spraying bottle.

·      Distilled water.

·      Liquid soap detergent.

·      Sponge.

Steps:

1.   Wipe your leather bag first with a piece of dry cloth to remove any excess removable oil.

2.   Add few drops of alcohol on cotton balls and gently rub it on the stained area.

3.   Add distilled water and liquid soap detergent just few drops in a spraying bottle. Liquid detergent can be a baby wash, body wash or face wash. After that shake the spraying bottle until you see bubbles. Then spray it on a sponge and wipe that sponge on the leather bag where there is an oil stain.

4.   Wipe the bag with a dry piece of cloth after which your bag will be clean and shiny.

5.   If your bag still have some spots or some area of the bag is still left to be cleaned then you can repeat the entire process again but remember to make the solution light this time as the area to be applied on has been reduced.

Tips and Warnings:

1.   The key to removing any stain is to treat the stain as soon as possible.

2.   Do not use wet tissues when pushing the powder away as the powder might set in and may even look ugly if your bag is black in color.

3.   Do not rub alcohol too hard on the bag as leather can get destroyed.

4.   Wear gloves when rubbing alcohol.

5.   When cleaning your bag make sure no other clothes or bags are kept nearby as any how the stain may get on other things when you are cleaning.
